Embracing the Magic of Beginnings
Jul 22, 2024Starting something new is always a mix of excitement and apprehension. It's natural to feel awkward and even embarrassed when you compare your early efforts to the highlight reels of others on social media. Seeing someone who is years into their journey can make our beginnings seem insignificant. But here's the truth: there is profound magic in beginnings.
The Comparison Trap
It’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing our first steps to someone else’s seasoned stride. Social media often showcases the polished successes of others, making us feel like we should already be where they are. This can lead to a desire to bypass the initial stages of growth. I understand this feeling all too well. When I started my coaching business and this podcast, I was at ground zero, facing a brand new audience.
The Reality of Starting Fresh
Despite having been an entrepreneur since high school and running a successful business, Fearlessly Girl, starting from scratch was daunting. Fearlessly Girl focuses on empowering young women and offers a certification program and consulting services to Fortune 500 companies. Yet, building a new audience and stepping into a new venture brought its own set of challenges. I found myself worrying about the number of likes on my posts and feeling embarrassed about not having a large following or a waitlist of clients.
Embracing the Brave Journey
But then I had a realization: there is bravery in starting something new. It’s an act of courage to put yourself out there, to be seen, and to embrace the journey. I began to celebrate my own efforts and the efforts of others who were also at the beginning of their journeys. When I shifted my mindset, things started to change. I leaned into the newness and accepted the early stages for what they were – a necessary and beautiful part of the process.
The Importance of Authenticity
Being honest about my journey helped me connect more deeply with my audience. It’s okay to be seen starting and figuring things out. Pretending to be further along than you are does a disservice to yourself and to those who look up to you. By sharing the reality of your journey, you inspire others who are also just starting out. This authenticity is what builds true connections and fosters genuine support.
The Unique Opportunities of Beginnings
There is a unique freedom in the early stages of a business. You can experiment, pivot, and explore different ideas without the constraints that come with being more established. This is a time to throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks. It’s a time of creativity and innovation. Every morning, I start my day with a brain dump of ideas – master classes, podcast topics, TikToks – and I find this process incredibly exciting.
Advice for Early Stage Entrepreneurs
If you are in the beginning stages of your business, here’s my advice: get really good at one or two things. Focus on a couple of offers for the first year or so and become known for those. This approach allows you to build a strong foundation before expanding into other areas. And remember, it’s okay to pivot. Being in the early stages means you have the flexibility to change direction as you learn and grow.
Personal Growth Through Entrepreneurship
Starting a business is an incredible opportunity for personal growth. It’s like playing whack-a-mole with your limiting beliefs and doubts. Each challenge you face helps you grow stronger and more resilient. So, if you’re feeling the urge to rush through the beginning stages, take a breath and appreciate this special time. It’s fleeting, and there will come a day when you look back and miss the excitement and newness of it all.
Celebrate Your Courage
For those of you just starting out, give yourself credit for your bravery. Show up, be seen, and share your journey. You never know who you might inspire. There are countless people who haven’t yet had the courage to start, and by being open about your process, you can be a beacon of inspiration for them.
In conclusion, there is immense beauty in beginnings. It’s a time to be celebrated, not rushed through. Embrace the journey, lean into the newness, and be your own biggest cheerleader. And if you ever need support, know that I am here, cheering you on every step of the way. Let’s connect and celebrate this incredible journey together.
